Designing buildings for public use can offer a unique set of challenges. These can include complexities such as working with a diverse group of people on committees to serving an end user who's potentially not involved in the design process. With years of experience in various aspects of architecture, J K Janiga Architects performs exceedingly well with these applications. From custom clubhouses to utilitarian public facilities, each building presents its own unique set of opportunities to create a spectacular and functional facility
Developed to house the pumps and equipment for a local municipal water supply system, this building makes an artistic expression about what is housed within. The use of blue symbolizes the water it provides. Large windows allow for light illuminating the equipment while being reminiscent of a time when the functions of utility buildings were as impressive as the buildings themselves.
From the moment you step through the custom entry door, you sense a warm welcome. Typically dark interior spaces are bathed with light from the high windows creating warmth not usually found in public buildings. Built for a residential golf course development, the subtle manipulation of the exterior forms creates a unique expression of design. This coupled with the attention to details makes this a building to experience and fitting for what has become a focal element not only in this development but also in the community.
As a joint effort among three rural fire departments this sub station was created to provide quicker response times while allowing for a centralized location. While the community desired an aesthetically appealing structure, low maintenance and reliability was also a must in developing this unmanned station. Though use of such materials as aluminum and architectural masonry we were able to create a unique facility that was both cost effective to build as well as to maintain and operate.
For many utility buildings, the size and scale of the structure is set by the equipment to be housed inside. This water treatment facility in Hamburg Township was no exception. The community wanted to construct a facility that met the functional needs but was compatible with the previously built pump house. Building on the classical styles and materials of the existing building, J K Janiga Architects was able to create a unique structure within the size requirements set to properly treat this community's water supply.
