After purchasing a nondescript warehouse, this Hot Rod Part Manufacturer looked to J K Janiga Architects to develop an exterior as cool as the parts they made.
Using Art Deco influences, this project became more than just a warehouse facade. Inspired by hot rod design, the stainless steel accent bands visually tie the large building together. The vertical entry was inspired by the back seat of a classic Chevy. Starting with simple elements, it has truly become more than the sum of its parts......like all good hot rods.
As with many new businesses, this building had been developed very inexpensively when it was opened 30 years previously. After years of successfully serving the community, the Owner was looking to improve the building's image to reflect the quality of service he offered. Using the elements found in the automobiles serviced at this facility, we explored various design concepts drawing inspiration from the classic repair centers throughout the history of the automobile, ultimately creating the one of a kind facility the client desired.
Employing construction methods to help control costs, this family owned auto dealership in Milan, Michigan, became a state of the art facility creating a well-recognized showpiece at the entrance to town. Located immediately off the freeway, its success was so profound that within five years an addition was needed. Using similar cost savings methods, J K Janiga Architects developed an addition, which appeared and functioned as if it had been part of the original construction.
